Entendiendo nuestras ciudades como fruto del arte de construir climas a través de la arquitectura y el urbanismo, buscamos practicar una escucha crip de la materialidad de nuestras calles.¿Qué imaginarios de lo enfermo y lo sano operan a la hora de tomar contacto con el espacio que habitamos? Durante las sesiones del workshop queremos explorar preguntas y proponer reflexiones colectivas hacia el prototipo de una ecología crip orientada a la ciudad.

El propósito del workshop Sounding Sickness reside en generar colectivamente un paseo sonoro para el barrio de Usera -donde se emplaza el Instituto de Estudios Postnaturales-, y un mapeado somático del mismo, a través de la escucha, la escritura y la oralidad. Crearemos un archivo sonoro de conversaciones y prácticas performativas, así como registros cartográficos basados en una aproximación a los materiales y agentes con los que cohabitamos nuestras ciudades desde la vulnerabilidad de nuestros cuerpos.

¿De qué manera podemos pensar un diseño tullido-queer para nuestras ciudades, donde las otras especies que nos acompañen no sean únicamente aquellas que operan bajo una imagen de cuerpos sanos, útiles, fértiles y magníficos? ¿A través de qué dispositivos se invisibilizan otras lógicas más oscuras, enfermas, yermas y secas de los ecosistemas?

Viernes - 1 Diciembre 2023, 12-18h

• Presentación del seminario y lectura del texto “ A orillas del Pantano Crip”, de cripxcess

• Recogida de objetos y materiales en los alrededores del IEP en el barrio de Usera con posteriores ejercicios de escucha, lectura y escritura especulativa. Estos elementos constituirán la base para el paseo sonoro y la cartografía somática.

Sábado 2 diciembre 2023, 12-18h

• Puesta en común y lectura de los materiales recogidos y los textos producidos a través de ejercicios de oralidad diversa mutua y diversa.

• Reflexión colectiva para la estructura y contenidos del paseo sonoro

Domingo 3 diciembre 2023, 11-13h

• Reflexión colectiva sobre la estructura y contenidos de la cartografía somática, que funcionará como un PDF descargable y estructurará el paseo sonoro.

• Feedback y conclusiones

Al Instituto de Estudios Postnaturales se puede acceder con la línea 6 de Metro (Usera) caminando 700 metros y la línea 3 (Almendrales) caminando 550 m ambas disponen de ascensor. Igualmente se puede acceder con las líneas de bus 6 y 78. El IPS se encuentra a pie de calle con un escalón con rampa portátil. No poseemos un baño accesible. El establecimiento con un baño público accesible más cercano está a 40 m de distancia. El workshop se desarrollará de manera presencial y en español. Los paseos programados durante el workshop podrán hacerse de manera física o virtual/imaginaria desde los espacios del IEP. No disponemos de sistemas de audio descripción o lengua de signos pero haremos lo posible para acoger, cuidar y proporcionar accesibilidad a las diferentes diversidades de vuestros cuerpos. No tenemos servicio de babysitting pero les niñes son bienvenides. En el espacio dispondremos de sillas, sillones y acceso a bebidas calientes y snacks durante los días del workshop.

Cripxcess es un colectivo que trabaja entre Madrid y Berlín, formado por Lorenzo Galgó y María Morata. Exploramos el cruce y disolvemos los límites entre la teoría crip y los estudios medioambientales a través de una práctica artística basada en el cultivo de la fragilidad como herramienta de pensamiento, y en la crítica al capacitismo desde nuestras cuerpas no-funcionales. Cuestionamos las categorías de lo sano y lo crip, lo exuberante y lo fértil, lo seco y lo estéril, que suelen articularse en el pensamiento ecológico dominante. Nuestra investigación pretende desarrollar una teoría de la ecología crip a través de una práctica artística colectiva que entrelace lo teórico, lo sensorial y lo somático como formas de producción de conocimiento.

SOUNDING SICKNESS

What imaginaries do we seek as we walk through our city? Verdophilia? Perfect cube-shaped hedges? Pleasant birds? Extensively landscaped areas? A sense of wild pre-human splendor? How do crip and queer bodies intertwine in these designed natures?

Understanding our cities as the fruit of the art of constructing climates through architecture and urbanism, we seek to practice a crip listening to the materiality of our streets: which imaginaries of the sick and the healthy operate when it comes to making contact with the space we inhabit? During the workshop sessions we want to explore questions and propose collective reflections towards the prototype of a crip ecology oriented to the city.

The purpose of the Sounding Sickness workshop is to collectively generate a sound walk for the Usera neighborhood -where the Institute for Postnatural Studies is located-, and a somatic mapping of it, through listening, writing and orality practices. We will create a sound archive of conversations and performative methodes, as well as cartographic records based on an approach to the materials and agents with which we cohabit our cities from the vulnerability of our bodies.

In what ways can we think of a crippled-queer design for our cities, where the other species that accompany us are not only those that operate under an image of healthy, useful, fertile and magnificent bodies? Through what devices are other darker, sicker, barren and dry logics of ecosystems made invisible?

• Presentation of the seminar and reading of the text "On the banks of the Crip Swamp", by cripxcess.

• Collection of objects and materials in the surroundings of the IEP in the neighborhood of Usera with subsequent exercises of listening, reading and speculative writing. These elements will form the basis for the sound walk and somatic mapping.

Saturday 2 december 2023, 12-18h

• Sharing and reading of the collected materials and the texts produced through exercises of diverse and mutual orality.

• Collective reflection for the structure and contents of the sound walk.

Sunday 3 December 2023, 11-13h

• Collective reflection on the structure and contents of the somatic cartography, which will function as a downloadable PDF and will structure the sound walk.

ACCESSIBILITY

The Institute for Postnatural Studies can be accessed by Metro line 6 (Usera) walking 700 meters and line 3 (Almendrales) walking 550 m both have elevators. It is also accessible by bus lines 6 and 78. The IEP is at street level, with a step without a portable ramp. We do not have an accessible bathroom. The nearest establishment with an accessible public toilet is 40 m away. The workshop will be held in person and in Spanish. The walks scheduled during the workshop can be done physically or virtually/imaginary from the IEP spaces. We do not have audio description or sign language systems but we will do our best to welcome, care for, and provide accessibility to the different diversities of your bodies. We do not have babysitting services but children are welcome. In the space we will have chairs, armchairs, and access to hot drinks and snacks during the workshop days.

BIO

Cripxcess is a collective that works between Madrid and Berlin, formed by Lorenzo Galgó and María Morata. We explore the crossover and dissolve the boundaries between crip theory and environmental studies through an artistic practice based on the cultivation of fragility as a tool of thought and the critique of ableism from our non-functional bodies. We question the categories of the healthy and the crip, the lush and the fertile, the dry and the barren, that are often articulated in mainstream ecological thought. Our research aims to develop a theory of crip ecology through a collective artistic practice that interweaves the theoretical, the sensory and the somatic as forms of knowledge production.
